Emily’s Etiquette Dinner
In May, Emily decided to
make an etiquette dinner for her final in cooking. We got out the china and
crystal and set the table very nicely. We had spaghetti, rolls, pumpkin bars,
frosting, and beans. We had milk and water for the drinks. It was very
delicious. The littler children got to sit at a little table we got from the
princess room downstairs. Emily taught us a little bit about etiquette manners.
It was very fun!

Swimming in the Canal
We enjoy swimming and
playing in the canal on hot summer days. We like jumping off the edges of the
canal. It is usually cold, so we need to get used to it. Some of our
conversations go like this…
By
Rachel age 13
“I’ll jump in if you’ll jump
in” “I can’t promise that” “It’s too cold” “I’ll jump in and then you jump in.”
We test the water with our feet. Sometimes we just need to count to three and
jump in.
We also like floating down
the canal on our tubes and life jackets. It is fun swimming in the canal when
you get used to the water.

Jonathan’s Mice
One day I was reading a
mouse book. I wanted to make a mouse cage. I wired it together and then I put
it in the detached garage.
I went and got a special
mousetrap and put food in it. I put it in the barn for a mouse to come. I came
back a day later and checked the mousetrap. There wasn’t a mouse in the trap
the first day. I forgot about it and a couple days later Crystalynne and Joseph
looked in the trap. I had one mouse. Dad tried to put it in the cage, but it
got away. I felt bad.
Then I put the trap in the
barn with food again. A day later there were two mice. We got one put in my
cage and the other got away. I put the trap in the barn again, and two days
later I caught four mice. We got two baby mice moved into my cage. The mommy mouse
and a baby mouse got away.
Then I put the trap in the
barn again and a day later I got a big fat mouse. Dad got some gloves. It
almost got away, but Dad caught it and put it in the cage. The next morning I
fed all my mice in the cage.
The next morning I came to
feed them, but all of them were gone. There was a hole in my cage. We looked in
my big water bucket and there was a dead baby mouse in it. The baby mouse must
have climbed up, fell in, and drowned. We threw it outside.

Getting Trees From the Old Church
A little while ago we were
able to get some of the pine trees from the old church. We are planning to make
furniture and do a bunch of other things with the wood. We cut down the trees
and loaded them up. We also got to play in the trees. We got a video of the
tree falling.

Most
of the church has been torn down now. They have a fence around the church, so
that nobody comes in. They will be building a new church.

Girls camp 2012
This past week I got to go
to girls camp. The theme this year is happily ever after. Our ward made up a
skit and performed it for the other young women in the stake.

On the last night of girls
camp we had a stake dinner. They put food in the middle of the table. We just
ate with our hands.
During girls camp we also
did some rope courses. That was pretty fun. They also have a lot of candy. We
usually stay up late. On the last night, some of the girls stayed up all night
and played pranks on the other girls.
When I came home I was
exhausted. I am glad to be home after a long week of girls camp.

Chain Sawing
The old church had some
trees that they were going to throw away. So we got the trees and took them to
our house and started to cut them in to firewood. My dad and I started to
chainsaw the wood. He had the 20-inch blade and I had the 12-inch blade. I
hated it because the chain was dull, and it was not that powerful.
The next day I asked my dad
if he would let me try the big chainsaw, and he said yes. It was hard to
control, but I handled it. My dad let me cut a few logs, and this was the first
time I cut with the big chainsaw. I liked the big chainsaw a lot better than
the little one.
Now we got half the pile
done, and we have a little trailer that is pulled by our four-wheeler. We put
the wood in the trailer and haul it up to the barn. We stack the wood in the
barn so the wood won’t get wet and will stay dry in the winter.

Joseph, the Lawn Mowing Man
I like to mow grass with the lawnmower and have some fun. I
like to lawn mow around the trees. Sometimes it runs out of gas. I go get Dad,
and we put gas in the lawnmower. Dad starts the lawnmower up for me, and I mow
some more. I have some fun. It is hard to push up and easy to push down. I like
to lawn mow the orchard and be the “lawn mowing man.”
